When the Sky is Falling, Should You Invest?

The good news: The market is offering bargain-basement sale prices on many stocks.

The bad news: Prices got that way from falling these last several months.

Should you invest in falling stocks or not?

Fast-falling share prices didn’t prevent legendary investor Warren Buffett from taking big stakes in Goldman Sachs and GE. And Buffett is a cautious investor who loves undervalued companies with a penchant for generating consistent profits year after year.

But it’s risky investing in falling stocks unless you have a very good idea of what you’re getting into. With a portfolio loaded with financial and industrial companies, Buffett was treading on very familiar ground with his latest investments. And don’t think that he wasn’t aware that these companies were also leaders in their respective sectors. He invested in the cream of the crop.

In a falling market, you have to be extra careful. Cheap value isn’t always good value. Invest in companies with outstanding track records of growing profits and leading their industry. And don’t stray outside your expertise and experience. By doing these things, you can greatly reduce risk and end up with some great stocks in your portfolio.

Lessons from the Donald

After spending a lot of time researching the best books and online courses to help enhance my company, I settled on some CD's from Trump University. - The Trump "Wealth Builder's Blueprint" series of CD's have remained in my car so that every day when I drive to work, I can be reminded of the fact that I am on a mission to form my own company, live my own life and work for myself. I have the Trump CD's rotating with the some Dale Carnegie CD's I picked up as well.

While I like the Dale Carnegie CD's because of the leadership (and professional and personal) principals they teach, the courses from Trump University have an abundance of information about starting a business, accounting, career development, how we learn and marketing strategies. I was nothing short of impressed by these as the price for them was reasonable given the abundance of information.

I had spent a lot of time researching other courses and CD / DVD collections available (especially by 'newer' entrepreneurs who are investing in real estate) but nothing matches the brand that is Donald Trump and Trump University.

Now if Mr. Trump and his team could only send a little more 'inner strength' to jump in with all of this new found knowledge I'd be all set...

The short of it is that I love a guy who is passionate about his work.

From this video (CNBC) it is so obvious that even with the economy as it is, and the mortgage crisis where it is, there is still an abundance of room for passion!

When do you know?

I've been spending my weekend with Steve Miller and his team from Trump University taking a real estate seminar. It's been insightful, informative and intellectually stimulating.

Today, there was a question brought up that sort of hung there...like a doused Dunkin Doughnut in a cup of muddy coffee. The question was: "Do you fear failure or do you fear success?"

Ugh.

Okay, I'll admit it, I'm a fear based kind of girl. I would rather analyze something completely before acting on it so I know I have all bases covered, all research complete, all "what-if's" considered. I like this way of thinking - less mistakes, less unknowns, more known unknowns and more time to get things done.

I can easily see these guys thinking ..."yeah right...." thinking that I'm probably one who fears failure and success both simultaneously. And, to an extent, that's okay - because my question for them is: "When do you know?"

When do you know if you've had enough and it's time for a change?

I think that, like the many patients I see every week (and have seen every year for the past 15 years), you don't know. That's the cool, subjective side of healthcare and the career I have - you just never know.

These four words seem to be increasing even thought the housing market is not so great...or is it? I've been looking over deals in our area (Metro DC) and it's amazing how many homes are presently on the market. Is there an opportunity to flip? - Definitely.

But it's not an easy task and making mistakes can be costly.

One thing I would recommend is using a coach to help you through some of your first deals and help guide you through the process. While the costs of coaching range and may often be high, you have to weigh the benefits of coaching and obtaining support vs. potentially losing a deal or transaction as a result of missing something in the process. Don't let costly mistakes happen to you.
